Filoti, the largest village in Naxos

Filoti, the largest village in Naxos !

Filoti is the largest village in Naxos, with about 1,800 permanent inhabitants, who live mainly from agriculture and livestock. Located on the slope of Mount Zas, the highest point of the archipelago (1,004 meters), out of the Tragea Valley, 19 kilometers east of Chora, 2 km south of Halki and 5 km south of west of Apiranthos. Here, the Cycladic houses, all white, contrast nicely with the dull color of the mountain.

On one of the slopes of Zas Mountain, Filoti is the largest village on the island, but also the most beautiful. Built on a privileged site, it enjoys an exceptional view that can only excite visitors. The architecture of the houses is typical of the Cyclades. The church of Panaghia tis Filotissas located in the center of Filoti is a templum entirely built in white marble. The building is home to beautiful icons. For those present on the island between 14 and 16 August, the great patronal feast of the Virgin is an event not to be missed. During these three days, folk dances and feasts are held throughout the village.
