Discover Ammitis Bay & Galini
Galini is a small farming village of Naxos built at the amphitheater in the western part of the Eggares Valley, with pretty houses and well-kept flower gardens. It overlooks the olive groves, orchards and vineyards of the valley that the famous writer Nikos Kazantzakis has described as paradise.
Just 100 meters from Galini is the Panagia Attaliotissa Church, dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin, and 500 meters away, the impressive fortified monastery of Ypsili.
The village of Galini has some 300 permanent residents eager to preserve traditional customs.
At Easter, they light the perifanes for the procession of the epitaph, Halloween kordelati dance on the square, while on August 15, the epitaph of the Holy Lady is treated through the village, followed by a great feast in the central square.
Ammitis beach is about 1.5 km from the village. Galini is 6 km from Chora, on the main road to Apollonas.
